On the Pitch and Beyond

At the Kansai Youth Cricket Development Organization, we believe it takes a village to build something truly special. You absolutely do not need to be a cricket expert—or even know the rules of the game—to make a massive impact.

Whether you are organizing equipment, capturing smiles through a camera lens, leading our English activities, or simply helping kids line up for a drill, your time helps us create a vibrant and inclusive environment. Bring your unique skills, meet fellow parents, and help us build a stronger, more active community for our youth. There is a role for everyone!

"On-Pitch" Roles (The Action)

Coach / Assistant Coach

  • The Role: The mentors of the pitch. Guide players in their cricket development and foster a love for the game.
  • Expectations: Basic cricket knowledge is helpful for Head Coaches, while Assistant Coaches simply need a willingness to learn and support.
  • Duties: Demonstrating batting and bowling techniques, advising on basic match strategy, and ensuring every player feels included and supported.

Drills Facilitator

  • The Role: The energy drivers! Keep the practice stations moving, fun, and highly active.
  • Expectations: Absolutely no cricket experience needed. High energy, patience, and a loud, encouraging voice are your best tools.
  • Duties: Setting up boundary cones, running small-group throwing and catching stations, and keeping the younger kids focused and smiling.

Official / Umpire / Safety Officer

  • The Role: The guardians of the game. Manage the match structure and ensure a completely safe, fair environment.
  • Expectations: A calm demeanor, focus, and a basic understanding of match rules (we provide full training).
  • Duties: Calling runs, boundaries, and outs, enforcing fair play, and monitoring the physical safety, equipment use, and hydration of all players on the field.

On-Pitch English / Spirit Guide

  • The Role: The vocal leaders blending language learning with team spirit right on the grass.
  • Expectations: Comfortable speaking basic English and Japanese. No formal teaching credentials required—just confidence and enthusiasm!
  • Duties: Leading the weekly "Pitch Dictionary" vocabulary sessions, prompting kids to shout phrases like "Catch!" or "Great shot!", and keeping the team's morale high.

Photographer / Videographer & Media Manager

  • The Role: The storytellers. Capture the action, the smiles, and the community in real-time.
  • Expectations: A good eye for framing action shots; comfortable safely navigating the pitch borders with a smartphone or digital camera.
  • Duties: Taking dynamic photos and videos during drills and matches, and organizing the media to share with parents and use for future community promotion.

Session Coordinator

  • The Role: The anchor of the day. You are the central point of contact from the moment the pitch opens until the final piece of gear is packed away.
  • Expectations: Highly organized, reliable, and excellent at directing people and keeping time.
  • Duties: Managing the check-in desk, organizing staff assignments and shift rosters for the day, keeping the schedule on track, and ensuring a smooth transition between drills and matches.

"Off-Pitch" Roles (The Engine)

Community Ambassador (Schools & PTAs)

  • The Role: The outreach voice of our organization. You will help build relationships outside of our current Sunday attendees.
  • Expectations: Professional, articulate, and comfortable speaking with local educators and parent groups.
  • Duties: Utilizing our official pitch materials to introduce the cricket program to local schools and PTAs, answering questions from the community, and inviting new families to join.

Social Media & Digital Manager

  • The Role: The digital voice of KYCO. Help us grow our online community and share our story with the world.
  • Expectations: Creative, familiar with platforms like Instagram and Facebook, and good at writing short, engaging updates.
  • Duties: Taking the content provided by our Media Managers and posting weekly updates, sharing upcoming events, and keeping our online community engaged and excited.

Off-Pitch English Teacher

  • The Role: Help our players take their English skills from the grass to the classroom (and online!).
  • Expectations: Comfortable teaching and guiding children in conversational English.
  • Duties: This is a developing role for our future programs! You will help facilitate online or offline English learning sessions, building on the vocabulary and confidence the kids learn on the pitch.

Curriculum & Logistics Planner

  • The Role: The organized mind that prepares us for the weekend.
  • Expectations: Highly detail-oriented and communicative.
  • Duties: Printing and organizing the weekly "English on the Pitch" worksheets, taking inventory of our kit bags during the week, and ensuring all physical materials are ready to go before Sunday morning.
